The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), in collaboration with the Dubai Police General Headquarters, has introduced a groundbreaking initiative aimed at improving road safety and regulating heavy vehicle operations across Dubai. Expanding Logistics and Infrastructure
In addition to enforcing safety standards, the RTA is also working to enhance Dubai’s role as a logistics hub. With 73,861 registered heavy vehicles in the emirate, the RTA has undertaken several initiatives to modernize fleets, improve driver behavior, and implement eco-friendly practices. Al Banna noted that the RTA is committed to enhancing the competitiveness of Dubai’s land logistics sector by modernizing fleets with zero-emission vehicles, improving vehicle performance, and supporting SMEs in the transport industry.
Furthermore, the RTA has recently completed the construction of 10 truck rest stops out of 16 planned. These rest stops, developed in collaboration with ADNOC, are strategically located on major truck routes, such as Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, Emirates Road, Dubai-Hatta Road, and Jebel Ali-Lehbab Road. Each rest stop covers an area between 5,000 and 10,000 square meters and provides parking for 30 to 45 trucks or heavy vehicles.
